The Guru–Disciple relationship is as old as Yoga itself, meaning it reaches back to the very beginning of time. According to the ancient yogic tradition, the true knowledge of Yoga cannot be gained only through books or intellectual study—it is received through the grace and guidance of a Guru.
A real Guru is not simply a spiritual teacher. A true Guru is one who has attained union with the Infinite Spirit, and is therefore qualified to guide others toward that same realization and inner freedom.
The Meaning of Guru
The Sanskrit scriptures describe the word Guru as the “dispeller of darkness.”
Gu means darkness
Ru means that which removes or dispels
Through the light of the Guru’s consciousness, the darkness of ignorance is removed. The Guru helps the disciple overcome the illusion of limitation and recognize the eternal truth—that we are divine beings with infinite potential. In this way, the Guru becomes the catalyst for deep self-transformation.
Tantra Knowledge: A Sacred Transmission
For those who wish to deepen their understanding of Yoga beyond the surface level, initiation into the Tantric tradition may take place under the guidance of the Guru.
The deeper science of Tantra is not openly taught. It is transmitted only from Guru to disciple, when the Guru feels the disciple is ready, sincere, and purified in intention. This sacred knowledge must be fully realized by the Guru through personal mastery before it can be passed on to others.
This is why many Tantric scriptures are written in symbolic and mysterious language. They are not meant for casual reading, but for sincere seekers who wish to evolve from the deepest core of the heart—not only for personal growth, but for the upliftment of humanity.
Diksha (Initiation) at Himalayan Yoga Ashram
Anyone is welcome to stay at our ashram for as long as they wish, according to their own purpose and spiritual calling.
For long-term sadhakas who are truly committed to offering their life to the yogic path, and who have complete faith in the Guru and the tradition, the ashram offers the possibility of Diksha (Initiation).
Through Diksha, a sacred bond is created between Guru and disciple. This bond is not merely ceremonial—it becomes a living connection that supports transformation, discipline, devotion, and inner awakening.
Teachings from the Heart of the Guru
At Himalayan Yoga Ashram, the teachings are offered directly from the heart of the Guru.
Disciples receive:
Satsang with the Guru, discussing spiritual and yogic wisdom
Traditional yoga classes guided by the Guru or senior disciples
Teachings rooted in authentic scriptural and Guru lineage
As devotion grows, the Guru–Disciple relationship deepens naturally. Through this connection, the seeker experiences true inner purification, transformation, and an eternal spiritual bond.
A Sacred Exchange
The Guru does not seek anything from the disciple except sincerity and spiritual progress. Likewise, the disciple does not seek worldly gain, but divine realization.
As Paramahansa Yogananda beautifully expressed:
“I seek nothing of you but your joy in God. And you seek nothing from me but God’s wisdom and joy.”
— Paramahansa Yogananda
